Century Ride Story
Mayor – I thoroughly enjoyed riding in the Century Ride on Saturday. The event was well-organized…and your staff left no stone unturned. It was a great experience all the way around. Following your suggestion, I did 62 miles, leaving with the pack shortly after 7:30 a.m. and crossing the finish line at 1:15 p.m. This is a turtle’s pace compared to some of the cyclists – but I wasn’t the last of the 62 milers to come in…and I felt good about the effort…and great about the event. Ann and I have cycled the route before, but never at one time, so it was fun to do it in a continuous loop.
Last year at this time, I couldn’t get up the hill on the bike path near out home, much less do 62 miles…but since I have lost almost 180 pounds in the last 14 months…and have been cycling 20-30 miles a day, four to five days a week, I am getting up the hills very well, now.
Perhaps next year I can do 100, eh?
Thanks again for making this great event happen. It is really a boost to the local area…and it was great to see so many riders from far away participating. For much of the way, I rode next to a guy from Brookhaven, who was thrilled to be here…and we were passed by cycle clubs from Oxford and the Coast. Neat.
